2005 Call for Papers

Deadline: December 10, 2004

Submissions. Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit papers for the Undergraduate Honors Conference to be held in conjunction with the 2005 Southern States Communication Association (SSCA) convention, March 30 to April 3, 2005 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Papers on any topic relevant to the field of communication are appropriate.  A panel of reviewers will evaluate and select papers to be presented at the conference.  The author of the top ranked paper will be awarded $100 and a certificate.

Completed papers must be received by December 10, 2004.

Format.  Papers should not exceed 25 double-spaced, typed pages exclusive of references, figures, and tables.  Papers should use non-sexist language, and include a 100-150-word abstract.  A title page should include the name, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, and school affiliation of the author(s).  Author identification should appear nowhere else in the paper.  Audio-visual equipment requests must also be specified on this page.  Due to expense and limited availability of a/v equipment, we may not be able to honor all requests.  Please ask for this only if it is essential to your presentation.

Author obligations.  Submission of a paper implies the author's commitment to attend the conference if selected and pay a registration fee of $50, which provides a convention program, a one-year association membership, two receptions, and a ticket for the awards luncheon. All submissions must be original and cannot have been previously presented at an SSCA Undergraduate Honors Conference. Any currently enrolled undergraduate student is eligible to submit a paper. Papers may be coauthored. Students should submit no more than one paper.

Addresses.  Electronic submissions are preferred, but paper copies are accepted.  Send papers via e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word format to [email protected].  Or, mail three copies of the paper to Dr. Charles H. Tardy, The University of Southern Mississippi, Speech Communication Department, 118 College Drive #5131, Hattiesburg, MS 39406-0001. Receipt of your submission will be confirmed by e-mail or postcard.  If you have questions about the submission process or the conference, please contact Dr. Charles H.
