About SSCA

The Southern States Communication Association (SSCA) is dedicated to advancing the study, teaching, and practice of communication. SSCA serves communication scholars, educators, students, and professionals across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. At the same time, SSCA is a welcoming professional association that encourages scholars, educators, students, and professionals from outside the region to join, participate in our convention, and contribute to the intellectual and professional life of the association.

SSCA promotes excellence in teaching and research, and provides opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and connection. Through our annual convention, divisions and interest groups, association and division awards, Undergraduate Honors Conference, and the Southern Communication Journal, we create spaces where members can exchange ideas, develop their scholarship and teaching, build professional relationships, and contribute to the communication discipline.

Communication shapes how people build relationships, lead organizations, navigate differences, participate in communities, and respond to a changing world. SSCA strengthens the people who study, teach, and practice communication, helping ensure that communication scholarship and education continue to make meaningful contributions within our region and beyond.
