SSCA Awards: Standard Operating Procedures
Award Criteria
- For an award to become a sanctioned SSCA organization award (individual division and/or interest group awards are determined by the division/interest group), it must meet the following requirements:
- Requests to establish a new award must be submitted no later than September 1 of the year prior to the convention.
- Awards must receive majority approval from the Administrative Committee
- Awards must be funded with a minimum of $2500 to receive a commemorative token (i.e., plaque, trophy, etc.).
- SSCA may serve as the steward of a potential award that has not reached the minimum funding requirement, holding the funds in an account until it meets the minimum funding requirement.
- Awards not meeting the establishment criteria are ineligible for official recognition as an award by the organization and therefore are ineligible for honorariums
- Donated funds are held, in a non-interest-bearing account, until the minimum balance reaches $2,500.
Commemorative Tokens & Honorariums
- Award recipients may receive an honorarium each year, based on the current award balance in the award fund, with honorariums awarded once the award balance reaches a minimum of $5,000; commemorative tokens (plaque, trophy, etc.) is awarded once the balance reaches $2500.
- An honorarium of $100 will be provided to the recipient for awards whose balance is between $5,000 and $10,000.
- An honorarium, totaling no more than $250 will be provided to the recipient(s) for awards whose balance is between $10,000 and $25,000.
- An honorarium, totaling no more than $500 will be provided to the recipient(s) for awards whose balance is between $25,000 and $50,000
- An honorarium, totaling no more than $1000 will be provided to the recipient(s) for awards whose balance is at least $50,000.
Caring Connections
- The Caring Connections program serves to fund the purchase of the recognition commemorative tokens (e.g., plaque, trophy, etc.) for all sanctioned organizational awards presented at the SSCA Awards Banquet at each year’s annual convention; funding for the recognition commemorative tokens (e.g., plaque, trophy, etc.) may be supplemented by the organization, if necessary.
- Donations received from the Caring Connections program that exceed the purchase amount of the recognition commemorative tokens will be distributed among the principal balances of the sanctioned awards.
- A committee comprised of the Executive Director, Resource Committee Chair, and Finance Chair shall determine how the remaining Caring Connections funds are distributed among the sanctioned award programs, with priority given to any award under the $10,000 threshold.
Direct/Additional funding
- Donations may be made by any individual/group to any specifically named award principal balance or honorarium contribution.
