Minutes of the General Business Meeting
Southern States Communication Association
Annual meeting

April 2nd, 2004
 
President Young called the meeting to order at 8:22 a.m. on April 2, 2004 and welcomed those present to the 74th SSCA conference.
 
The minutes and agenda were approved.  Officer reports were delivered (see minutes of the Executive Council for specific information regarding these).  Standing Committee recommendations were as follows:
 
Constitution:
Naming the UHC for Ted Clevenger
Naming the Early Career Research Award for Janice Hocker Rushing
Changing the Sisco Award requirement for teaching to 10 years
Changing the Shirley Award to an Association Award
Changing the Bostrom Award to an Association Award
 
These motions were approved unanimously by the members.
 
The budget recommended by the Finance Committee was approved unanimously.
 
The selection of Louisville (2007) and Savannah (2008) for future conference sites was approved unanimously by the members.
 
The following Ad-Hoc Committee recommendations were made and approved unanimously:
John Meyer was selected as the next editor of the Southern Communication Journal.
Jean DeHart was selected as the next Advertising Manager.
Emmett Winn was selected as the next Executive Director.
 
Under New Business, Political Communication was unanimously approved as a new division of the Association.
 
President Young was introduced by Vice President Thibodeaux and delivered her presidential address entitled, "Truth and Tolerance in the Groves of Academe" (Click here to read Presiden Young's address).
 
President Young adjourned the meeting at 10:21 a.m.
